Honolulu, HI : Police chase, crash snarl traffic on H-1 westbound on Tuesday, 23rd August 2016
A police chase of a "most wanted" suspect Tuesday afternoon ended with a multiple-vehicle crash on the H-1 Freeway in Aiea, as the suspect smashed into several cars before attempting to flee on foot.
Traffic cameras showed gridlock in the area, as police continue their investigation.
The chase, which weaved through several communities, ended about 4:20 p.m. on the freeway.
The suspect hit at least a dozen cars on the freeway, traffic cameras showed, then fled on foot. He was arrested.
Police identified the suspect as Bryson Bagio, an alleged serial car thief, who also took police on a chase in June.
Bagio was arrested on two warrants totaling $200,000, and faces additional charges.
Tuesday's chase started in Waianae before weaving through Kaneohe, Honolulu and through Kalihi. Bagio then allegedly got back on the H-1 westbound, and got stuck in afternoon traffic.
After allegedly hitting multiple vehicles, he tried to climb onto the Aiea overpass, where he injured his leg.
Police closed several lanes of the freeway for about an hour Tuesday afternoon, but all lanes were re-opened by about 5:50 p.m.
