Grundy County,IL : Fatal crash in I-80 under investigation on Sunday, 3rd May, 2020

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan and Illinois State Police released information about a fatal crash that occurred around 11:50 p.m. Sunday.

Preliminary information indicates a vehicle, a blue 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, had been parked on the shoulder of Interstate 80 at mile post 114, east of Brisbin Road, and was reentering the westbound lane of traffic. Just as the vehicle entered the roadway, it was struck from behind by a black 2019 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Brandon E. Heard. Heard, 43, of River Grove, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:42 a.m. Monday, May 4. The driver of the Jeep, Jean Christopher Dylan Wilson, 20, of Morris, sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Jeep, Jesse Smith, 25, of Morris, was transported to Morris Hospital before being airlifted to a second hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
