Gainesville, FL : Gainesville man, 69, killed in crash on NW 156th Ave. on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016
A 69-year-old Gainesville man was killed in a single-vehicle crash north of Gainesville on Tuesday.
Jerome Poritz was driving a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis west on Northwest 156th Avenue just west of State Road 121 around 12:40 p.m. when he lost control of the car, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.The car first went off the road onto the north shoulder, according to the FHP. Poritz went back onto the road and then overcorrected back toward the north shoulder. The car began to spin and went off the road.
The driver's side of the car slammed into a utility pole.
Poritz was taken by ambulance to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead.
According to troopers, alcohol was not involved. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
