Louisville, KY : One person killed in Newburg Road crash on Saturday night, November 8, 2014
One person was killed after a car crash on Newburg Road Saturday night around 11 p.m. near the campus of Bellarmine University, according to LMPD Public Information Officer Dwight Mitchell.
The person who was killed was a backseat passenger in the vehicle.
Officials say a 2008 Dodge Caravan was traveling north on Newburg Road, when Christopher Wilton, 45, lost control of the vehicle and left the road. The vehicle then hit a curb and traveled along a ditch line and came to rest in a field owned by Bellarmine University.
The backseat passenger, who was reportedly in their mid 40s, was taken to University Hospital, where he or she later died from injuries sustained during the crash.
Wilton, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with DUI on Sunday. He is currently being held at Metro Corrections.
He also faces charges of arson, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which Mitchell says have not been related to Saturday's crash.
Wilton is expected in court Monday.
Both the victim and driver are reported to be residents of southern Indiana.
