BULLHEAD CITY, AZ : Man hospitalized after crashing truck onto culvert on Tuesday, 25th October 2016
Police and medical crews had to look for a man who fled after crashing a vehicle through a fence and onto a culvert wall Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded about 3:40 p.m. to a report of a truck in a ditch just north of the 2500 block of Country Club Drive, said Battalion Chief Craig Stephenson, Bullhead City Fire Department.
“When crews arrived, the vehicle was empty, but there was a hat with blood on it in the road,” he said. “Residents of the neighborhood told police the man was still in the area and officers went looking for him; we sent medical with them.”
The white Chevy pickup apparently went up and over a curb and through a fence, coming to a stop with the passenger side of the vehicle balanced on a single flood canal wall, the nose of the truck buried in the southern bank of the ditch.
The passenger door was open and objects from the cab and bed of the truck littered the ground half a dozen feet below the truck cab.
It wasn’t known if the vehicle was equipped with them, but no air bags deployed, Stephenson said. It was probably a very hard landing.
“A motorist flagged down and advised an officer of a man with blood on his shirt,” said Emily Fromelt, Bullhead City Police Department spokeswoman. The man, identified as Phillip Ray Poff, 52, was located near the boat launch ramp near Camino Del Rio and Mohave Drive.
Poff was taken to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center by Bullhead City ambulance to be treated for his injuries.
No further information on Poff’s medical condition has been released.
Officers reported Poff showed signs of possible driving under the influence, Fromelt said. No charges have been filed yet as Poff was admitted to the hospital. His blood was drawn for further analysis and charges are pending per blood results and the conclusion of the investigation.
