Marion, IL : 72-year-old Richard L. Haught dies after head-on crash on Illinois 37 near Reservoir Road on Wednesday, April 8, 2015
A 72-year-old Goreville man, identified by the Williamson County Coroner's Office as Richard L. Haught, was killed after a head-on collision at about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday on Illinois 37 in Marion.
Haught was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on Illinois 37, near Reservoir Road, according to an Illinois State Police news release. A 2002 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Trey Holmes, 23, of Marion, was driving northbound.
The pickup traveled into the northbound lane and struck Holmes' vehicle head on. The driver of the pickup was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries. Holmes was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and Illinois 37 was closed for about three hours during the investigation and re-opened around 9 p.m. State Police listed alcohol/impaired driving as the cause of the crash.
