Gonzales, LA : Pedestrian killed on Louisiana 431 Monday morning on August 18, 2014

Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal pedestrian crash that shut down a section of highway in Ascension Parish Monday morning. The crash took the life of 67-year-old Karen A. Russell of St. Amant. Officials say Russell walked across LA Highway 431 in front of her residence to check her mailbox. When she tried to cross back, she was struck by 50-year-old Paul J. James also of St. Amant who was driving a pickup truck. Authorities say James was unable to avoid hitting Russell. Impairment is not suspected and James was not cited in the crash. Louisiana State Police closed LA 431 between LA 621 and LA 934 near Gonzales due to the crash.
