Albuquerque, N.M : 2 dead in fiery crash on Highway 550 near Unser Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2016
Two people were killed in a fiery crash on Highway 550 near Unser Thursday afternoon, according to the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office.
Spokesman Lt. Keith Elder said the driver of a gray Ford pickup truck was going north from Rio Rancho and crossed into the path of a southbound red Toyota pickup truck, causing a head-on collision.
“As a result of the collision, both vehicle burned,” Elder said. “The drivers of both vehicles did not survive the crash.”
Elder did not identify either driver or say what genders they were. He said deputies have not yet notified their family members.
A notice on NMRoads.com said the road was closed in both directions and traffic was seriously delayed in the area.
Elder said drivers headed to Jemez Pueblo, Cuba or Farmington should find a different route.
