Miami Township, OH : 20-year-old Zachary Gekeler of Germantown died in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Upper Miamisburg Road Wednesday morning, February 10, 2016

State troopers are investigating if slick roads were a factor in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Upper Miamisburg Road Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 7600 block of Upper Miamisburg Road near Jamaica Road just after midnight on a reported vehicle striking a power pole.

Sgt. John Chesser from the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the Ford SUV was traveling west on Upper Miamisburg Road when it drove off the right side of the road and slammed into a pole.

The driver of the SUV, only identified as a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chesser said the roads were slick near the crash scene, but the factors surrounding the crash were still under investigation. It was unknown if speed or alcohol might have also contributed to the crash.

A Dayton Power and Light pole was hit and live wires were knocked to the ground, but electricity was not lost to any homes or businesses in the area.

The roadway is blocked in both directions at the crash scene and it is unknown when Upper Miamisburg Road will reopen.
