Athens, GA : Bogart man dies in single-vehicle Oconee County wreck early Thursday, March 30, 2017

A Bogart man was killed in a one-vehicle wreck early Thursday along Georgia Highway 53 in Oconee County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Christopher Hammond, 34, was killed when his Nissan Xterra ran off the highway along a curve just below Rocky Branch Elementary School near the Clotfelter Road intersection, the patrol said.

Hammond was traveling east when the vehicle went off the road and through a ditch and overturned numerous times, Trooper Matthew Miles said.

The wreck probably happened hours before it was discovered by a passing motorist, who called authorities at 6:59 a.m., the trooper said.

There was no evidence to indicate why Hammond lost control of his vehicle.
