Knoxville, TN : 25-year-old Hixson man killed, father critically injured in Alcoa accident on Monday morning, December 29, 2014
A Hixson man was killed and two people injured in a crash on Alcoa Highway Monday morning.
Alcoa police officers are investigating the crash that occurred at 6:37 a.m. on Alcoa Highway near the Airport Hilton, according to Alcoa Police Chief Philip Potter.
A 51-year-old Oak Ridge man was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on Alcoa Highway. According to witnesses, the man was in the right-hand turn lane at the Airport Hilton and then turned left in an attempt to make a U-turn.
While attempting the U-turn, the Corvette was struck by a 2004 Ford Escape, driven by a 48-year-old Knoxville woman. The Oak Ridge man’s son – a 25-year-old Hixson man – was a passenger in the Corvette and was killed as a result of the crash. The Oak Ridge man was critically injured and was taken by Rural/Metro Ambulance Service to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
The Knoxville woman was also taken by ambulance to UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers said they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the cause of the accident. The crash is still under investigation and names will be released pending notification of family members.
