Studio City, CA : Lake View Terrace man killed in 101 Freeway crash in Studio City early Monday, December 12, 2016

A two-car crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Studio City today left one motorist dead and the other in custody on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 5:15 a.m. on the westbound freeway at Laurel Canyon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Juan Juarez, 39, of Lake View Terrace died at the scene, the CHP reported.

Frederick Flores, 53, of Canoga Park was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, the CHP reported. He was being held on $100,000 bail, the sheriff’s department reported.

According to the preliminary investigation, Flores was driving a 2009 BMW that had stopped for an unknown reason in the No. 2 lane of the freeway, the CHP reported.

“A 2005 Toyota, being driven by Juarez, was northbound in the No. 2 lane and struck the BMW,” a CHP statement said. “Juarez, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene ...”

Flores suffered minor injuries, and was treated at a hospital before being released into the custody of officers, the CHP reported.
