A truck driver is in serious condition after a crash Thursday morning in rural Steele County.
A press release from the Steele County Sheriff’s Office identifies the drivers in Thursday’s crash as Travis Fessel, 42, of Waterville and Jade Petterson, 20, of Owatonna. The crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 45 and 98th Street at about 8 a.m.
According to the statement, Fessel, driving a Kenworth truck, was driving west on 98th Street and failed to yield to Petterson, who was driving northbound on County Road 45 in a Chevy Malibu.
Both motorists were transported to Owatonna Hospital after the crash, and later transferred to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus, in Rochester, according to the Sheriff’s Office. A Mayo Clinic spokesperson said Fessel was in serious condition as of Thursday afternoon, but said Petterson was not listed as a patient.
The statement notes that both parties were wearing seatbelts, and no alcohol or drugs were detected. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Gold Cross Ambulance Service, the Ellendale Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
