Glade Spring, VA : Man killed in crash with tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 on Sunday morning, April 2, 2017

The man who died Sunday morning after the car he was driving failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the back of a tractor-trailer was identified Monday by police.

Lindy C. Sutherland, 68, of Kingsport, Tennessee, was traveling in a 2013 Ford Focus northbound on Interstate 81 when he took the Exit 29 ramp at a high rate of speed, according to Virginia State Police. The Ford failed to stop for the stop sign at the end of the ramp, continued into the southbound lane of Route 91, crossed the center line and struck the rear of a tractor-trailer driving in the northbound travel lane of 91, the VSP said.

Sutherland died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt, according to the VSP.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
