Canyonville ,OR : 13-year-old girl dies in car crash after intoxicated father leaves roadway and strikes a treeon Friday evening ,July 3rd 2015

Authorities in Douglas County say a 13-year-old girl has died after her intoxicated father crashed the car she was riding in into a tree.

The Douglas County Sheriff's says Sophia Emma Rose Pena of Days Creek died Friday evening after her father left the roadway and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. The crash happened near Canyonville, south of Roseburg.

The father, 55-year-old Paul Anthony Pena, was arrested and booked into the county jail on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving and criminally negligent homicide.

Investigators say they found him attempting to do CPR on his daughter, who was not breathing. Sophia Pena was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
