Ocala,FL : Victim identified in early morning fatal crash on December, Sunday 3rd 2017
One man is dead after an early morning crash Sunday at the intersection of State Road 200 and Southwest 66th Street in Ocala.
The dead man, Vaughn Monson, 22, of Bradenton, was one of four people in a 2008 Chrysler Sebring, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The Chrysler Sebring collided with a 2006 Ford Freestyle around 6 a.m. Sunday. The driver of the Ford, Curtis Brewer, 62, of Ocala, and the other three people in the Chrysler — the driver, Altione Walker, 26; and passengers Curleatha Brown, 32, and Curdarrius Brown, 18, all of Ocala — sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said the Chrysler was possibly related to an open theft case. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it fled. Deputies did not pursue it.
While traveling east on SR 200, the Chrysler ran a red light and crashed into the Ford while it attempted to turn left onto SR 200 from Southwest 66th Street. The front of the two vehicles collided and the Chrysler slid across the westbound lanes and into a ditch.
Monson was the right rear passenger, according to an incident report. He was pronounced dead at ORMC.
No one in the Chrysler was wearing a seat belt. Brewer was wearing one.
The theft investigation is still ongoing.
