Cleveland,OH : Several children were hurt when two Cleveland school buses crashed early Thursday morning at East 71st Street and Hough on May 1st 2014

Parents got the scare of their lives Thursday morning when two school buses collided, sending more than a dozen students to area hospitals.

It happened near East 71st Street and Hough Avenue.

Investigators say one bus was traveling north and the other was coming from the west.

There is a traffic light at the intersection. Police say one of the drivers failed to stop.

The sight of the damaged buses was enough for parents to break down in tears.

"He sits in the front of the bus because he's one of the youngest, so I saw the front of that bus and I just, I don't know, it scared me," said parent Latrease Marks, whose son Larenzzo was one a few students not injured in the crash.

"It sounded really scary," said Larenzzo. "I thought I was going to be dead."

One driver was taken to MetroHealth -- the other to University Hospitals.

Fourteen students were rushed to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, including Dorian Blair's daughter.

"I noticed that she had a head injury and was limping a bit -- safety and her health is first, I'm just glad she wasn't unconscious," he said.

Despite the damage, none of the injuries are life threatening.

"The insides of the buses are designed to keep kids safe. They have safety glass, emergency evacuation procedures," said Eric Gordon, CEO of Cleveland Public Schools.

Marks is counting her blessings that such a terrible crash wasn't any worse.

"I'm grateful, I'm just thanking God right now that my son is right here for me to take home safe and sound," she said.

Police say the investigation is on-going.

They have not yet cited any of the drivers, nor are they releasing their names.
