Wilson County, TN : Mt. Juliet officer injured in head-on crash with wrong-way driver near Rockdale Fellowship Road early Sunday morning, July 3, 2016

A Mt. Juliet police officer was involved in a head-on crash with a wrong-way driver early Sunday morning.

It happened on Weakley Lane near Rockdale Fellowship Road around 2:15 a.m.

Mt. Juliet police reported the officer was on his way home when he was struck head-on by a car traveling in the wrong direction in his lane.

In an effort to reduce the force of impact, the officer attempted to stop just before the car collided with his patrol SUV, according to authorities.

No one was seriously injured in the crash though the officer was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the crash to assist with the investigation.

The driver and one occupant are facing multiple charges from the THP. Mt. Juliet police reported the driver is suspected of driving while impaired.

No additional information was immediately released.
