Columbus, OH : Mock crash Friday at Pioneer on Friday, March 23rd 2017
Pioneer Career & Technology Center is hosting a mock crash Friday. There are four different sessions: 8:30 to 9:30 and 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. and 12 to 1 and 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. It will take place in the board parking lot at Pioneer, 27 Ryan Road, Shelby.
With help from Shelby EMS and fire department, along with a trooper with the State Highway Patrol, the mock crash will educate students on the irreversible consequences of distracted driving. The goal is to leave a lasting impact on the Pioneer students and faculty as well as the community and make the roads safer for everyone.
Students from several labs have invited the Shelby city council members to view the crash and also have teamed up with a New Jersey-based foundation, People Against Distracted Driving (PADD), which has provided wristbands, bumper stickers and key chains to pass out to the students. PADD also donated a street legal sign that will be put up on Ryan Road to help remind students of the dangers of distracted driving.
The coordinators of the mock crash will be competing in a state competition for HOSA (Health Occupations Student Association) as a community awareness project. Pioneer recently completed a schoolwide ICE lesson for Pioneer and brought in State Highway Patrolman Gary Griffith to educate HOSA and SKILLSUSA on the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.
