Ormond Beach, FL : Three-year-old injured after hit by vehicle on U.S. 1 in Volusia County on Friday night, March 27, 2015

A 3-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle Friday night after wandering into the street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The boy from Ormond Beach wandered into the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 1 in Ormond Beach while his grandmother was working in the yard, a report said.

People across the road at the Iron Horse Saloon saw the boy walking toward traffic and ran to stop oncoming vehicles.

Sally Noel, 31, of Palm Coast, couldn't come to a complete stop, and hit the child with her four-door Mercury at 6:35 p.m., a report said.

The child was transported to Halifax Medical Center with minor injuries.

Noel hasn't been cited in the accident, which remains under investigation, the report said.
