Great Bend, KS : A fatal vehicle crash in Pawnee County on Wednesda, June 7, 2017
The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to a fatal vehicle crash in Pawnee County west of Rozel at 7:10 a.m. on Wednesday. Michael Heim, 38 of Pratt, was killed in the crash.
A 2006 Mercury passenger car driven by Jacob Rives, 16, of Burdett, and a 2014 Ford pickup driven by Heim were westbound on K-156. The pickup was behind the Mercury.
A 2017 Kenworth driven by Shane Edenfield, 48, of Sheldon, Iowa, was eastbound on K-156. The Mercury crossed the center line and struck the Kenworth.
The impact from both vehicles caused the Kenworth to cross the center line and run head-on into the pickup.
The Mercury came to rest in the south ditch on its wheels. The Kenworth came to rest in the north ditch, laid on its top and the cab was removed from the frame of the vehicle, then rested on the driver’s side and the Ford pickup came to rest in the north ditch, and came to rest on the driver side.
Heim was taken to Beckwith Funeral Home and his next of kin were notified. Rives was taken to Pawnee Valley Community Hospital for his injuries and Edenfield was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, for his injuries. All three drivers were wearing seat belts.
