Springfield man dies after motorcycle accident Dayton Ohio
A 75-year-old Springfield man died over the weekend after he was injured in a motorcycle collision with a car that was turning into a residential driveway Friday afternoon.Jerry Kunkle was pronounced dead Saturday at 6:56 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital, where he was taken by CareFlight.Kunkle, an avid Harley rider and lifetime member of H.O.G., the Harley Ownership Group, was injured in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon in the 4700 block of Bosart Road that resulted in the amputation of his leg.A driver in a PT Cruiser heading northbound collided with Kunkle, who was heading southbound. The car was turning into a Moorefield Twp. driveway around 3:52 p.m. Friday.That driver, identified Monday evening as a 68-year-old Springfield woman, was not injured and had not been charged or cited, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Springfield.Two nurses who live near the scene of the accident heard the crash and rushed to help Kunkle.“We applied pressure and talked to him and tried to reassure him,” said one, Diane Myers, who is retired.Kunkle served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired and worked for SPECO for 32 years. He was also a member of the Union Club, where he served nine years as trustee.At the scene, Trooper David Slanker said the accident was the fault of the car’s driver.“She definitely failed to yield,” he said. “That’s what caused the collision.”Visitation for Kunkle, the youngest of 13 children, is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Littleton & Rue, where the funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday.
