Boothbay, ME : Four people injured after Boothbay-area school bus crash on Thursday, March 31, 2016

A school bus carrying a dozen elementary school students was involved in a two-vehicle crash about 2:49 p.m. Thursday near the Boothbay Harbor end of Back Narrows Road.

Three students of Boothbay Region Elementary School and the driver of a 2003 Oldsmobile sport utility vehicle were taken to the Miles Campus of Lincoln County Health in Damariscotta for apparently minor injuries, according to a release from Lt. Rand Maker of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary investigation determined that the Oldsmobile was headed south on Back Narrows Road and crossed into the northbound lane, striking the school bus head on, according to the release.

The bus was taking 12 children home from Boothbay Region Elementary School.

Back Narrows Road was closed to traffic for more than 90 minutes while deputies investigated the crash and the area was cleared.

According to the release, the sheriff’s office expects to release additional information including the names of the two drivers on Friday.

Boothbay Harbor police and fire personnel, Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and Central Lincoln County Ambulance Service also dealt with the crash.
