Diamond Bar,CA : 4 injured in motorcycle chase that ends in wrong-way Diamond Bar crash on August, Friday 18th 2017
Four people were injured Friday, two critically, when a motorcycle that had been chased by the California Highway Patrol collided head-on with a car while going the west on the eastbound 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar, authorities said.
The motorcycle was being pursued for speeding around 1 a.m. on the northbound 57 Freeway when it went onto eastbound 60 Freeway, traveling west on the eastbound lanes, the CHP reported.
The Yamaha R6 was being operated by 23-year-old Gregory Galassi of San Dimas, and his passenger was a 24-year-old Los Angeles woman, the CHP reported.
“In an effort to evade arrest, Galassi entered the eastbound lanes of SR-60, traveling westbound, at a high rate of speed,” a CHP statement said. “At this time, CHP officers discontinued pursuing Galassi, due to his reckless driving.”
Meanwhile, a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by a 19-year-old La Habra woman was heading east on the freeway in the No. 6 lane at about 65 mph, the CHP reported.
“As (Galassi) approached (the Toyota’s) location, he maneuvered his vehicle into the No. 6 lane and was involved in a head-on collision,” the CHP reported.
Galassi and his rider were hospitalized in critical condition. The Toyota driver and her passenger, and 18-year-old male from Rosemead, were treated for minor injuries.
The three right lanes were closed until about 6 a.m. while an investigation was conducted.
