HYDE PARK, NY : Man killed in fiery Hyde Park car accident on Wednesday, 9th November 2016
A man was killed when his car caught fire after driving off Route 9 on Wednesday and crashing into a rock wall and a tree, police said.
The name of the victim — the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle — was being withheld pending a final determination by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, Hyde Park police said.
The crash occurred at 1:25 p.m. between Scenic and Ledges drives, according to a statement from police, who said they received multiple calls reporting the accident.
The vehicle, traveling southbound, had crossed into the oncoming lane, according to police, then left the roadway and struck a rock wall before it finally struck a tree. The vehicle then caught fire.
The Hyde Park and Fairview fire departments extinguished the vehicle fire. Roosevelt firefighters assisted with the recovery of the driver's body, police said.
Town police were assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and their CRASH team during the accident reconstruction.
