TOMS RIVER, NJ : Man found dead on Christmas Day was hit by bus on Sunday, January 1st 2017
Authorities have determined that a New Jersey Transit bus struck and killed a pedestrian whose body was found on a Toms River street on Christmas Day.
But they say that neither the driver nor any passengers realized at the time that 45-year-old Keith Elliott had been struck.
The driver said Elliott was trying to flag him down so he could board the bus. The driver stopped so Elliott could cross in front, but he gestured to Elliott that it was too late to board.
Believing Elliott was walking away, the driver continued his route. But surveillance video and evidence from the bus eventually confirmed its involvement in the crash.
The 60-year-old driver has been with NJ Transit for 22 years. He remains out of service while the investigation is ongoing.
No charges have been filed.
