Rochester, NY :Deadly crash on Route 104 in Rochester on Monday, July 6th 2015
We have new details about a deadly crash that shut down part of a major highway just as the morning commute got underway.Police say a motorcycle crashed into a truck that was stopped on Route 104 near Hudson Avenue around 7:15 a.m. Troopers spent most of the morning trying to figure out exactly what happened. Crews were forced to shut down a portion of Route 104 and divert traffic near the Hudson Avenue exit rampNew York State Police say they discovered a truck had run out of gas and was stuck in the middle of the highway before the crash. Sergeant Samuel Spezio said, “It was stopped in the right lane of traffic causing other vehicles to swerve from that lane of traffic and the motorcycle ended up striking the rear of that vehicle.”Emergency crews say by the time they arrived, the motorcyclist had died.Many drivers reached out to us, concerned about the vehicle in the middle of the road. So we asked police what you can do if your vehicle stops on a busy highway. Sergeant Spezio said, “The best thing to do in that situation is to try to get off the roadway is quickly and safely as possible we're currently investigating the circumstances of this individual or why he could or could not move from the vehicle or move the vehicle out of the roadway.”
