Redding, CA : Three people injured after a three car crash on Highway 273 in Redding on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2015
A car caught fire after it was rear-ended at a traffic light on Highway 273 Wednesday afternoon. It happened around 4:30 p.m. at the South Bonnyview Road intersection.
Redding Police said a 2006 Nissan Altima failed to stop and hit a 1997 Audi A4 that was stopped for a red light. That triggered a chain reaction involving 4 cars.
According to Captain Mike Holst, when crews with the Redding Fire Department arrived the Audi was fully engulfed with flames and another was partially engulfed. Holst said it is very unusual for a vehicle to catch fire.
The driver of the Nissan, Tyler Robinson, 19, and his passenger, Stephanie Danley, 19, both of Anderson, were taken to the hospital.
The driver of the Audi, Joshua Brand, 24, of Redding, was taken to the hospital with minor burns.
Two other people were hurt, but not taken to the hospital.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
