Kings Mountain, NC :Victim identified in Kings Mountain hit-and-run crash on Friday, August 21 2015

David Demond Boone,36, has been charged in the incident that claimed the life of a young man in Kings Mountain Friday.
Boone has been charged with felony hit-and-run inflicting serious injury or death according to Captain Derek Johnson with the Kings Mountain Police Department.
Boone is currently being held in the Cleveland County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
Johnson said the victim has been identified as Jose Abel Lopez Mejia, 24, of 430 North Edgemont Avenue in Gastonia.
The suspected hit-and-run happened off of U.S. Highway 74 in Kings Mountain Friday.
Sgt. Lisa Proctor with the Kings Mountain Police Department said that the incident happened some time around 7 a.m. Friday morning. Officers say they believe victim died instantly.
She said the incident appears to be a hit-and-run. There is evidence that a vehicle swerved off the road and hit the victim. Police are checking the area to see if anyone or any business got the incident on-camera.
Friday morning, fire crews had the east bound ramp to Highway 74 off of Oak Grove Road blocked off.
That’s probably one of the most callous things I’ve ever heard of anybody doing - to just hit somebody and drive away," said Cass Davis, a local working near the scene of the incident.
Law enforcement officials echoed a similar sentiment.
