Gary, IN : A woman is dead following a three-vehicle crash on Monday, January, 29th 2018
A woman is dead following a three-vehicle crash that shut down a major Park Ridge street for hours Monday, police said.
According to preliminary information released by police, a white 2016 Kia was driving east on Touhy Avenue from Greenwood just before 10 a.m. when witnesses reported seeing it cross the center lane and slam into a Mack dump truck that was headed west.
Police said the impact pushed the Kia back into the eastbound lanes of traffic, where the passenger side was struck by a silver 2011 Chevy. The dump truck, which sustained front-end damage, came to a stop on the sidewalk in front of an apartment building at the northeast corner of Touhy and Chester.
Firefighters had to extricate the driver from the Kia, and she was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, said Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen.
The Park Ridge Police Department identified the woman Tuesday as Mary Ann Neil, 68, of Des Plaines.
The other drivers involved in the crash sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
The crash left debris strewn across the intersection of Touhy and Chester avenues and shut down all lanes of Touhy between Cumberland and Greenwood avenues as police officers with a multi-jurisdictional major crash investigation unit conducted an investigation.
By afternoon, police announced that Touhy Avenue was expected to remain closed until at least 5 p.m.
