Bowling Green, KY : One dead, one injured in crash on Ky. 185 on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016
As Tammy Tooley headed home to Round Hill on Ky. 185 north in Warren County Tuesday evening, she saw a gray Hyundai Accent traveling south drift over into her lane.
She swerved off of the road to avoid being struck, and the Hyundai collided with a Chevrolet Avalanche that had been traveling behind Tooley in the Anna community.
Tooley got out of her car and ran to both drivers. She told the driver of the pick up truck to stay inside of his badly damaged vehicle until help could arrive. She knew the man in the Hyundai wouldn't survive his injuries.
She called 911. At 4:30 p.m. Warren County Sheriff's Deputies headed to the 10400 block of Ky. 185, where Tooley waited.
"The one gentleman was conscious," Tooley said of the pick up truck driver. "The other man wasn't conscious."
The driver of the Hyundai, a 57-year-old man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m., Warren County Deputy Coroner Dwayne Lawrence said at the scene.
The driver of the Avalanche pick up truck was injured and taken by ambulance to The Medical Center, Warren County Sheriff's Sgt. Bill Stephens said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately available at the scene. The Hyundai had to be mechanically cut open to remove the deceased driver.
Both directions of Ky. 185 were shut down for nearly two hours with traffic backed up about a half of mile in both directions
"The black truck was right behind me," Tooley said. "To keep him from hitting me, I ran off the road and he hit the truck."
Tooley said the Hyundai appeared to drift over into her lane gradually before she took evasive maneuvers to get out of the way. One of Tooley's rear tires blew out when her car left the roadway.
