Bridgeport, CT : Two injured after Route 8 crash in Valley on Wednesday, March 8th 2017
Two people were injured in a two-car accident on northbound Route 8 in Derby Wednesday morning.
The accident, reported at 6:19 a.m., had northbound traffic backed up across the Commodore Issac Hull Bridge to Exit 13 in Shelton. It also caused more than two hours of residual southbound delays that stretched more than four miles into Seymour.
The left, northbound lane was closed between Exits 15 (Route 34) in Derby and 16 (Pershing Drive) in Ansonia for about 90 minutes.
First-responders say two people were transported to Bridgeport Hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.
Around 7:30 a.m. , the left lane reopened, but there was more than four miles of delays into Seymour. Delays lingered past 8:45 a.m. with speeds in the teens and low 20s mph.
The accident happened near the Commodore Issac Hull Bridge in Derby/Shelton, an area known as having the worst traffic bottleneck in the Valley during the AM and PM commutes.
According to state Department of Transportation data, daily traffic volumes are between 51,000 to 75,000 vehicles a day south of the bridge and 45,000 to 55,000 north of Derby.
