CUPERTINO, CA : Man killed, driver arrested in Cupertino DUI crash on Wednesday, 11th December, 2019
One man was ejected from his vehicle and killed in an Interstate 280 crash that led to another man’s arrest early Wednesday, authorities said.
Around 1:18 a.m., the driver of a silver Hyundai sedan was speeding southbound on Interstate 280 in Cupertino, approaching the Stevens Creek offramp, when he rear-ended a Kia Soul, according to Officer Ross Lee of the California Highway Patrol.
The Kia Soul veered across the right shoulder and hit a tree, causing the male driver to be ejected from the car through the windshield.
Passersby tried to resuscitate the man until California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 1:20 a.m. and took over, Lee said. Paramedics arrived about four minutes later and continued CPR until the man was pronounced dead about 1:36 a.m.
The man’s identity will be released after his formal identification and notification of family by the coroner’s office.
