rollover crash near Kearney killed one person and sent another to the hospital Sunday evening. The Nebraska State Patrol said it happened around 6:40 P.M. near mile marker 268 on Interstate 80. That's just past the eastbound rest stop to the west of Kearney.NSP said a rear tire blew on a tan pick-up truck headed west. That caused it to roll into the median and come to rest on the eastbound lanes. Troopers said the driver was seat belted in, but the passenger was not. The driver was pronounced dead on scene. It's unclear what caused the tire to blow, but troopers said it may have been heat related."I can't be entirely certain, but we do get a lot of tires during the hot days like this that blow out due to extreme temperatures they create," said NSP Trooper Kevin Whetstine. The names of those involved have not yet been released. Traffic was diverted through the eastbound rest area and also stopped at Odessa for an hour and a half in that area while crews cleared the scene.
