Arkansas State Police reported four people were killed and another one injured on Arkansas roads in recent weeks.A Springdale man was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Washington County on Thursday, state police said.Jonathan Lee Smith, 21, was driving a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle south on U.S. 71-B at a high rate of speed about 11:30 a.m., the report said. Homer Andrew Shumate, 85, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet north on U.S. 71-B and was making a left turn onto Main Street when the motorcycle hit the side of his truck.Smith was killed and Shumate was injured and taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, the report said.A 70-year-old Indiana man was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday in Jasper in Newton County, according to a state police report released Thursday.James L. Bonfield of Chesterton, Ind., was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Arkansas 7 when he lost control while trying to navigate a curve, left the road and came to a stop in a creek, according to the report.A Dardanelle man was killed in a single-car crash in Russellville in Pope County on July 15, Arkansas State Police reported Thursday.
Earl W. Matthews, 39, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Aveo south on Shepard Drive when the car left the road near West 17th Street, crossed the street, crashed through a fence and hit two parked cars, according to the report.State police also reported a Mississippi man was killed when his Mack truck caught on fire and he could not escape in a July 11 crash in Hot Spring County.The report released Friday said Gary Joe Roberts, 55, of Nesbit, Miss., was driving a 2011 Mack truck west on Interstate 30 about 8:10 p.m. when the vehicle left the road and went into a ditch, hit a tree and caught on fire.
