Pembroke, MA : Accused drunk driver that killed 13-year-old in Pembroke crash arraigned on OUI, manslaughter charges on Sunday, 29th December, 2019

A Marshfield man charged with killing a 13-year-old girl in an alleged drunk driving crash Sunday morning in Pembroke slurred his speech and told officers he “drank way too much,” according to court documents and the Plymouth District Attorney.

“I’m so (expletive) up … I know I shouldn’t have been driving .. .I can’t believe I did this … I drank way too much, I’m so sorry,” Gregory Goodsell, 31, told police officers at the scene of the fatal Sunday morning crash on Route 139 in Pembroke, according to court documents obtained by the Herald.

Goodsell pleaded not guilty to charges including manslaughter while operating under the influence at his arraignment Monday at Plymouth District Court, He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled Jan. 3.

Goodsell allegedly drank alcohol and used cocaine before running a red light and crashing his pickup truck into a car carrying two 13-year-old girls and a 50-year-old female driver. The victims were all rushed to South Shore Hospital, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Pembroke Police Chief Rick Wall.


“His speech was heavily slurred. His eyes were glassy and bloodshot. He was saying the same few statements over and over,” police said, according to court documents.

Goodsell was arrested at the scene in the area of Church Street and Oak Street and then taken to the hospital for an evaluation. There was a bottle of whiskey and a beer can in his truck at the time of the crash, according to court documents.

Both girls involved in the crash were later taken to Children’s Hospital in Boston for treatment where one of them died Sunday night at about 9:30 p.m.

The identities of the victims have not been released. The 50-year-old woman and other 13-year-old girl are in serious condition. Their car, a Subaru, had heavy front-end damage and Goodsell’s Ford pickup truck was found fully turned around across the street with heavy front-end damage as well.

Goodsell pleaded not guilty to one count of manslaughter while operating under the influence and two counts of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury. He also pleaded not guilty to one count each of possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, speeding, failure to stop at a signal and improper passing.
