Fort Myers,FL: Fort Myers man seriously hurt in crash of four-wheel ATV into Cape Coral canal on January, Wednesday 3rd 2018
The Cape Coral Police Department responded to an ATV crash at approximately 7 p.m. last night after an ATV rider crashed and was ejected into a canal. The Major Crash Investigator's synopsis is below:
De'onte Laqae Mitchell, 19, of Fort Myers was seriously hurt Wednesday night when the ATV four-wheeler he was riding crashed into a Cape Coral canal.
Cape Coral police said Mitchell was driving west on NE 13th Lane approaching the intersection with NE 21st Avenue and failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection.
A police report said Mitchell then drove west across a vacant field for 127 feet before the ATV hit a berm at the east edge of a canal and both the ATV and Mitchell landed in the canal.
A family member with Mitchell and a neighbor at a nearby residence helped pull Mitchell out of the canal.
Mitchell was in critical condition in an area hospital.
