Stamford, CT : Young boy seriously injured after being hit by car on West Side Thursday evening, August 25, 2016
A young boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car after running into a West Side street Thursday evening.
The 8-year-old boy was covered in blood when officers arrived on Virgil Street about 6 p.m. Thursday. The child had numerous lacerations and contusions, according to Sgt. Andrew Gallagher, of the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad.
The boy was rushed to Stamford Hospital where he was treated for a concussion and received stitches for his wounds. Gallagher said he was held overnight for observation and is expected to make full recovery.
Officer Hugh Mullin investigated the scene and determined the driver and the boy shared blame in the accident. Based on security camera footage and marks left on the street, Mullin determined the driver of the 2004 Honda Civic was traveling above the 25-mph speed limit, Gallagher said. Mullin also concluded the boy ran out of his driveway in a westerly direction before hitting the right front fender of the Honda, Gallagher said.
Gallager said the boy bounced off the car and landed in the street.
The driver, Lilian Prada, 45, of Virgil Street, was cited for traveling unreasonably fast. The boy’s family was issued a verbal warning for reckless use of the roadway by a pedestrian, Gallagher said.
