TANGENT, OR : Albany woman dies in crash at Seven Mile Lane, Tangent Drive on Monday, 14th May 2018

An Albany motorcyclist was struck by a car and killed at an intersection east of town on Monday afternoon.

Sarah Danielle Watson was 22. She was a 2014 graduate of West Albany High School.

She also was a 2017 graduate of Linn-Benton Community College, earning an associates degree in applied science animal technology and horse management, according to the college website.

A Linn County Sheriff’s Office news release stated that investigation into the crash is continuing, though it does not appear that speed or alcohol were contributing factors. The investigation will be reviewed by the Linn County District Attorney’s Office, according to the news release.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Seven Mile Lane and Tangent Drive and was reported at about 3:25 p.m.

Witnesses told deputies that a 2007 Toyota Prius headed eastbound on Tangent Drive didn’t come to a complete stop at the stop sign and then continued east through the intersection, colliding with Watson's 2006 Yamaha XV2 motorcycle, which was northbound.

Both vehicles came to rest on Tangent Drive, east of the intersection.

Watson was pronounced dead at the scene, and was transported from the site by Aasum Funeral Home.

The driver of the Prius, Miranda Rebecca Carnes, 19, of Tangent, was not injured in the crash.

The roadway and surrounding roads were closed for approximately three hours during the investigation.

Deputies were assisted by the Tangent Rural Fire District, the Albany Fire Department, a Linn County multiagency crash investigation team and the Linn County Road Department.

This is the second fatal crash in less than a week for the mid-Willamette Valley.

On Thursday evening, an Albany man died in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 20, about four miles west of Albany near Granger Avenue.
