ROME, NY : A Canastota man died following a head on collision on Sunday, 25th March 2018
A Canastota man died following a head on collision early Sunday morning, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department said.
Authorities responded to State Route 49 near the Oriskany Road ramp just before 1 a.m. for a two car collision.
Deputies said Tonya Springer, 48, of Villa Rica, GA, was driving a 2017 Freightliner Cascadia with Angela Terrelo, 51, of Pikeville KY, as a passenger. She observed a white car traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of Springer’s travel.
Springer tried to avoid the car, but the two vehicles collided head on. The car, a 2014 Nissan Versa was being driven by Jerry Holmes, 34, of Canastota.
Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene and Springer and Terrelo were uninjured, deputies said.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, Forensic Unit and Accident Reconstruction Unit all assisted in investigating the accident. Sheriff members were also assisted by New York State Police, AmCare Ambulance, Rome Fire Department and Stanwix Heights Fire Department on scene.
The accident was reconstructed and remains under investigation.
