ELK GROVE, CA : 2 women killed, man sought in hit-and-run near Elk Grove on Wednesday, 7th September 2016
Officers are searching for a man who was involved in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night near Elk Grove that seriously injured his father and killed his grandmother and his father's girlfriend, according to the California Highway Patrol.Valentino Alvarez, 22, of Sacramento, along with other family members, had gathered about noon at their great-grandmother's house in the town of Hood. The 91-year-old woman had died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, and the family decided to get together to celebrate her life.
Alvarez, his father, his grandmother and his dad's girlfriend decided to leave the house and were in a vehicle driven by Alvarez, when their car hit the back of a tractor-trailer carrying lumber at about 9:20 p.m. near Hood Franklin and Stone Lake roads, the CHP said.
The car then flipped over several times and crashed into a fence next to a home.
Alvarez, who was injured, got out of the car and ran from the scene. He then flagged down a passing car that supposedly took him to a relative's home in Hood, but no one has seen him since the crash, officers said.
Alvarez's grandma, 64, of Hood, and his father's girlfriend, 47, of Folsom, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Alvarez's father, a 44-year-old from Folsom, was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and had to have his hand amputated, the CHP said.
Investigators said Alvarez did not have a license.
It is unclear if the driver of the lumber truck was injured in the crash.
