Maryville, TN : Third person confirmed dead in U.S. 411 South crash on Saturday, January 28th 2017
Authorities have confirmed a deadly crash on U.S. 411 South Saturday evening has resulted in the death of a third person.
Brianna L. Allard, 21, of Greenback, was killed as a result of the two-vehicle crash near Hitson Road, a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) spokesperson confirmed Wednesday.
Authorities had previously identified the two others killed in the crash as Rebecca A. Kirkland, 49, of Vonore, and Matthew R. Sherwood, 28, of Maryville.
Allard was driving an SUV south on U.S. 411 South when her vehicle was struck by a northbound pickup truck driven by David A. Kirkland.
Kirkland, 54, of Vonore, had crossed the center of the road just before the crash, according to witnesses and a THP preliminary crash report. Kirkland is currently facing two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault and a DUI charge. He was also cited with reckless driving and failure to exercise due care on the road.
The report states Kirkland had not been drinking but was under the influence of drugs. The report also states Allard had been drinking.
Sherwood was the front seat passenger in the SUV, while Rebecca Kirkland was the front seat passenger in the pickup. A third passenger in the truck, 14-year-old Austin Kirkland, was injured, police said.
Two others in the SUV were also injured, police said. They were identified as 28-year-old Maryville resident Bret E. Welch and 31-year-old Alcoa resident Christopher W. Hagamon.
Staff at University of Tennessee Medical Center said Hagamon and David Kirkland were both in stable condition Wednesday, while Welch was serious. Hospital staff had no patient information available on Austin Kirkland.
An account has been created on www.gofundme.com to raise money for Sherwood’s funeral. The page was created by an individual identifying himself as Sherwood’s older brother.
“A tragic accident took the life of my little brother on Saturday,” the page reads. “...My family would like to give him a proper funeral and burial. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.”
The page can be found at www.gofundme.com/funeral-cost-for-matthew-sherwood. As of Wednesday, the page had raised $1,245 of a $10,000 goal.
Autumne Garland, the owner of Integrity Tattoo in Maryville, said the business would also be donating funds to the funeral costs for anyone getting a tattoo in memory of Sherwood either this week or next week.
Garland said Sherwood came to the shop for tattoo work, and she also knew his extended family. The business is located at 109 Nicole Court and is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.
