PAINCOURTVILLE, TN : 20-year-old woman killed in Assumption Parish crash, State Police say on Tuesday, December 27th 2016
A 20-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night after the driver of the car in which she was a passenger failed to yield when he made a left-hand turn, the State Police said.
Aja Brown, of Houma, was killed in the wreck that occurred at 7 p.m. on La. 70 at the intersection with La. Spur 70, according to a news release from the State Police.
The State Police said 21-year-old Taris Gregory, of Napoleonville, was driving west on La. 70 in a 2016 Honda Civic. Gregory began to make a left turn onto La. Spur 70 in front of an eastbound 2000 Ford Excursion being driven by 47 year-old Paulette Pursley of Riceville, Tennessee. Pursley struck Gregory’s vehicle on the passenger side in the intersection and both vehicles traveled off of the road, according to the release.
Brown was the front seat passenger in Gregory’s vehicle and was properly restrained. She was pronounced dead by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.
Gregory was wearing his seat belt and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge for treatment. Pursley was also wearing her seat belt and did not report any injuries, State Police said.
Alcohol and drug involvement is not suspected as a factor in the crash, the State Police said. A blood sample was collected from Gregory and standard toxicology tests are pending. Pursley provided a breath sample with no alcohol detected, the release said.
