A driver was seriously injured Thursday when she was ejected from her car in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 North.

The victim, a 21-year-old Taunton woman, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence in a Mansfield ambulance with serious injuries, according to a state police spokesman.

The woman was conscious when rescue workers arrived. A nurse and another motorist assisted the woman before rescue officials arrived.

Rescue officials reported that she suffered head, face, leg and neck injuries.

She was traveling north on I-495 just before 11 a.m. and lost control of her car, striking a guardrail just south of Exit 10, state police said.

The car rolled over and came to rest near woods off the highway. The woman was found about 25 feet from the car.

The car, a 2004 Toyota Camry, sustained heavy damage and a bumper was torn off.

Trooper Dustin Finch, a state police spokesman, said the right lane of the highway was closed for about an hour.

State transportation officials also responded to the scene.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by troopers from the Foxboro barracks.
