A man who spent 40 years as a journalist at The Saginaw News has died with his wife after their car struck a tractor-trailer.

Christopher Thompson was driving and his wife, Mari Zimmerman-Thompson, was a passenger in the crash Thursday in Saginaw Township.

The Saginaw News (http://bit.ly/1FYG3uG ) says the 74-year-old Thompson was a columnist and copy editor when he retired from the newspaper in 2006. The 73-year-old Zimmerman-Thompson was an artist who started Yellow Dog Studios.

Thompson was an artist, too, mostly photography. Their art was displayed throughout the region, and both were members of the Midland Artists Guild. They were married in 2002, two years after Thompson's first wife died of cancer.
