Delaware State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash near Wilmington that left a woman in critical condition.
Police say 25-year-old Alyse Alvini of New Castle was traveling north on South Riding Road about 1:10 a.m. Saturday. When she entered the intersection at New Linden Hill Road, her car was struck by a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta.
After the collision, police say the driver of the Jetta fled the scene on foot. The suspect is described as a white woman in her early 20s.
Alvini was left at the scene, trapped in her vehicle until she could be extricated by rescuers. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Eastbound New Linden Hill Road was closed for several hours overnight as police investigated and the crash was cleared.
