The Parks Highway has been completely reopened after a semi-truck collided with a pickup near Big Lake Tuesday morning.
Alaska State Troopers say they received reports of the collision at around 11:00 a.m.
According to troopers, the semi was heading southbound along the highway when it reportedly lost control. The vehicle jackknifed across the highway when the driver, 72-year old Carl Wilbur, tried to slow down to avoid another vehicle on the highway.
The semi collided with a Ford F-150 carrying two people travelling north. The driver of the pickup, 68-year-old Beverly Marple, was entrapped after the collision.
Rescuers were able to extricate Marple and rush her to hospital with life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
The passenger in the pickup, 71-year-old Allen Marple, was also seriously injured and transported to hospital, troopers said.
Wilbur did not report any injuries.
The Parks Highway was temporarily closed as emergency personnel responded to the crash site. All lanes had reopened by 3:15 p.m. Troopers said.
