Augusta, ME : Augusta police chief critically injured in weekend motorcycle crash on September 6, 2014
Augusta's police chief and a sergeant were injured over the weekend in a motorcycle crash during an off-duty charity event.
Chief Robert Gregoire and Sgt. Christopher Shaw, who were riding separate bikes, crashed Saturday during a Shriners ride in Jay.
Deputy Chief Jared Mills tells the Kennebec Journal that Gregoire's wife, Cathy, who was riding with her husband, also was injured.
In an email sent Sunday to city officials, Mills said all three were "currently being treated for and recovering from their injuries."
City Manager William Bridgeo wrote in an email to city officials that injuries suffered by Cathy Gregoire and Shaw "were not that serious," but that the chief "is still undergoing assessment and treatment."
Mayor Mark O'Brien says the injuries do not appear life threatening.
