GRAND RAPIDS, MI : Grand Rapids officer arrested for crashing car while drunk on Sunday, 16th October 2016

A Grand Rapids police officer was arrested and placed on administrative leave for failing to report an accident and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The 46-year-old officer is a 23-year veteran of the GRPD, according to a release from the department. He was arrested by the Michigan State Police Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle and fleeing the scene, later blowing above the legal limit of 0.08 BAC following a breathalyzer test.

Sgt. Terry Dixon did not release the name of the officer or the result of the breathalyzer test.

He was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and then transported to the Kent County Correctional Facility.

The Michigan State Police is conducting the investigation and will present its findings directly to the Kent County Prosecutor's Office upon completion of their investigation.

The Grand Rapids Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an administrative investigation. The officer will remain on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
