MILWAUKEE, WI : A hit-and-run crash on Saturday, August 26, 2017
A 10-year-old boy is in a coma, with part of his skull removed, after a hit-and-run crash Saturday.
A speeding driver slammed into his family's car near Fond du Lac and Armitage avenues.
Al Walker said he's fortunate to still be alive. He was behind the wheel late Saturday when he said a car raced out of the darkness with no lights on and slammed into his car.
"Before I know it, the car that was coming this way, no lights on, speeding up, hit me in the tail end, and my car did like a 360. I'd say at least 70 or 80 mph," Walker said.
The force of the collision left his son with a broken arm and punctured kidney, his wife with abdominal injuries and Walker with neck and chest bruises from the seat belt.
His 10-year-old nephew in the back seat wasn't so lucky. He suffered a head injury so severe part of his skull had to be removed. He remains in a coma.
"They're sitting him up and everything, but he just won't open his eyes. I'm just waiting on a prayer, to tell me he's opened his eyes, and he's alert, but you know, he's just there and hopefully he can come out of this," Walker said.
The driver ran away, leaving his car behind.
"Tell you the truth, I think he was a coward," Walker said.
"Do you think he cares that your nephew is seriously hurt?" WISN 12 News reporter Nick Bohr asked.
